Got an Old & Rusty Grandfather Clock face? LLCrafts at Galgorm, Ballymena can restore it for you back to its former beauty.

Artist Louise Lester (BA Hons) can paint any beautiful design on a customer’s clockface, producing a perfectly unique and bespoke item in all its glory! Even if the old clockface is rusty and aged, take it along to Louise and see it transformed.

All types of clockfaces can be restored, including this bespoke decorated sample of a ‘Moon Dial’ Clockface.

The beautiful detailing of the numerals around the top curve and the delicate ‘world globe maps’ along the top edge, helps to display the ‘Moon Dial’ movement of this clockface.

Another beautiful example of Louise’s work is this ‘Steam Train’ commissioned clockface.

The important aspect of this particular order was the quaint steam engine train scene, which the customer wished to be brought ‘back to life’ and brightened up. The scene was then complimented with lovely delicate corner flowers, to finish the design.

As you can see, the degree of damage and rust on this clockface before restoration was quite severe, however when fully restored the end painted result is refreshingly elegant.

So if you have a damaged clockface which you think is beyond hope get in touch with Louise.

So contact artist Louise Lester at ‘LLCrafts’ – Info@llcrafts.co.uk with your old and rusty items, and restore some life back into them!

Directory Page Picks

Breadboy Cover lrg webJust some of the awesome things we are enjoying this week. They are so good we had to share!

1/ At the Directory Page we are passing around the latest book by Belfast born Tony Macauley. We loved his first book Paperboy and have laughed out loud at the next instalment of his biography “Breadboy”.

If you remember getting your loaves from the back of the Ormo van then we highly recommend it. Even if you didn’t you will love the Belfast slang, local references and ‘in-jokes’. It follows on seamlessly from “Paperboy” where Tony began his working life as the ‘first pacifist paperboy in the Shankill’, leading him in to his teenage years and a promotion on to the local bread van.

He will be in town on Saturday signing copies of his book in Ballymena Waterstones where “Breadboy” has been top of the Ballymena bestsellers chart since it was released over a month ago.

2/ We love technology, but we also love home spun crafts.

So when they got put together by artist called Nina Azzarello we got a little bit dizzy with excitement. Nina decided to customise her own computer desktop with some hand drawn icons. They turned out to be so awesome that she is now selling 12 icons at her Etsy shop to liven up your computer screen.

3/ Creative advertising [with babies]

There seems to have been a spate of advertising using babies recently, real and CGI babies………and, some have been a bit weird to watch! We reckon Evian have done a great & fun job with this…..

4/ Apps for runners

I’m an iPhone user………and love checking out new apps. Here are a couple of ideas for you if you walk/run/excercise and want to track your distance, route and pretty much all the other info you would need. And if you can’t afford one of those fancy watch gadgets from Garmin!

app

We aren’t really going to put these two apps head-to-head in a test……but, both will serve you well if you want to keep track of your running info and, they make sharing your info on Facebook/Twitter easy. In fact that’s the one key factor I love about both apps. They encourage community among their users. You can track friends, set goals, targets and even set up a little bit of competitive fun as you try to beat each others times and distances. All great fun and good for you! Great stuff from Nike and The North Face, take your pick!

Robert Adair Jewellers in Ballymena stock jewellery fit for ever occasion. The price of Platinum and Gold has sky rocketed and is a cause for concern for both manufactures and retailers. Manufacturing items such as diamond engagement rings and wedding bands has become more expensive.

Could Palladium be the new alternative?

Palladium imageAt Robert Adair Jewellers Ballymena we have found a gradual rise in the popularity of this precious metal with more and more of our customers seeking an affordable price range.

Palladium is 95% pure and is made up Ruthenium and Iridium, which are also platinum group metals.

Palladium is a Platinum group metal and comes with many advantages.

Rings

For example:

    • It does not tarnish or lose whiteness when worn.
    • Palladium does not need to be rhodium plated like white gold
    • Palladium is harder wearing.
    • As it is a platinum group metal it makes the jewellery item hypo-allergenic
      with negligible nickel content
    • The colour of palladium is slightly darker than platinum making any set diamonds look more revealing.
    • Palladium is in the same price bracket as white gold but due to the price of gold rising and that Palladium is a less dense metal than gold it is less expensive.

Interesting facts -

Palladium is actually rarer than Gold and may hold a higher value in the future, especially if it becomes sought after over Gold due to trends in the buying market.

From January 2010 Palladium has been officially recognised as a precious metal. If a Palladium design weighs more than 1 gram it is now a legal requirement for it to be hallmarked.

The symbol for Palladium is the Pallas Athene, the Greek Goddess of War, Wisdom and Crafts, after whom it was named. The mark was designed for use as part of the Palladium hallmark as shown below.

palladium hallmark

Like 9ct and 18ct gold there are two qualities of palladium available palladium 500 and palladium 950.  The 950 quality is almost pure palladium while the 500 standard comprises 50% palladium.

Robert Adair Jewellers stock a full range of palladium rings in both 500 and 950 qualities, and would be more than happy to show you the range at their Ballymena premises on Mill Street.  If you have questions or would like more information on Palladium contact Stuart Adair on  028 25656896 or email info@robertadairjewellers.com.
