If you haven’t tried contact lenses before the staff are happy to answer any questions and help to put you at ease. You may have contact lenses fitted at the same time as your eye test, just inform the receptionist when booking your appointment.

If you decide on contact lenses the procedure is as follows. Mr Fitzsimons will take a detailed look at the lids and the front of your eye (Cornea) using a microscope. He will then take precise measurements of the front of your eye and insert a suitable lens to these measurements and assess the fit of the lens. Assuming the fit of the lens is perfect we will then arrange an appointment to show you how to insert and remove the lenses safely. You will then have a trial of the lenses for 1-2 weeks depending on the lens used. After this period of time you will return for a contact lens check to ensure you are happy with the lenses and no further adjustments are required.

Daily disposable - ideal for occasional use, eg. weekend or sport
Daily disposable Torics - as per daily disposable but to correct astigmatism (irregular shape of eye)
Monthly disposable - lenses designed to be worn more regularly throughout the month and replaced with a new lens each month
Monthly disposable Torics - as per monthly disposable but also to correct astigmatism
Silicone Hydrogel lenses - lenses designed for extended wear, which let the eyes ‘breathe’ more
30 day wear lenses - lenses designed to wear continuously day and night
Gas Permeable Hard lenses - lenses designed for complicated prescriptions and may be worn from 6 months to a year
Coloured lenses - lenses to enhance or change the colour of your eyes. These are available prescription or non-prescription

There are also lenses designed for multi-focal use, please contact the practice for further details.

We have invested in cutting edge technology to provide Retinal photography – the first Optician in Ballymena to do so. The state-of-the-art Topcon Digital Retinal Camera allows us to take photographs of the back of your eye (the retina), and enable us to carry out a far more detailed examination than was previously possible. The image we take is similar to the one shown here, and our experienced optometrists can use this photo to diagnose the health and condition of your eyes.

We have also invested in the Visio-office, a video system which gives unparalleled accuracy in dispensing Varifocal lenses. Importantly, it also offers you the chance to be videoed wearing a selection of frames allowing you to compare styles before choosing.
